About

Paddling from Pontymoile Basin on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal is a peaceful and immersive experience, offering both stunning natural beauty and a glimpse into South Wales’ industrial past. Whether in a canoe, kayak, or on a paddleboard, the calm, sheltered waters make for an accessible and enjoyable paddle, perfect for all abilities. As you glide along, you’ll be surrounded by lush woodlands, rolling hills, and historic stone bridges, with the canal teeming with wildlife—from darting kingfishers and elegant herons to dragonflies hovering over the reeds. Once a vital trade route transporting coal, iron, and limestone, the canal is now a haven for paddlers, walkers, and nature lovers alike, offering a tranquil escape into the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

We are thrilled to bring AquaPaddle to this historic and picturesque location, adding Pontymoile Basin to our growing network of free, timed 5K paddles. The canal, built in the late 18th century, remains one of Britain’s most scenic waterways, winding through breathtaking countryside while showcasing remnants of its industrious past. Pontymoile Basin, once a bustling hub of canal trade, now serves as a gateway to adventure, with charming lock cottages, historic wharves, and beautifully preserved towpaths adding to its unique character. Whether you’re drawn to the peacefulness of a quiet paddle, the rich history of the waterways, or simply the opportunity to enjoy fresh air and stunning scenery, AquaPaddle Pontymoile Basin offers an unforgettable way to experience one of Wales’ most beautiful and historically significant canals.
