Liverpool - Queens Dock

Paddle the Southern Docks

Explore Liverpool’s dockland past and vibrant present on a 5 km timed paddle route past the Liver Building.

About

Nestled within Liverpool’s iconic waterfront, the new AquaPaddle location at Queen’s Dock forms part of the vibrant Liverpool Watersports Centre. This sheltered dock offers an ideal playground for watersports all year round, with free parking, on‑site café Fika (thanks for the image), and changing facilities ensuring paddlers are well cared for. The AquaPaddle route takes participants on a scenic 5 km loop through the historic docklands, passing landmarks like the Liver Building and the Albert Dock.

The area is alive with urban wildlife—mute swans, ducks, and herons can often be spotted, while the surrounding reeds and aquatic plants add a welcome touch of greenery to the cityscape. A wide range of activities is available here, including stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, open-water swimming, power-boating, and the popular inflatable Aqua Park.

Queen’s Dock hosts the exciting GBSUP Liverpool SUP Festival, featuring national series races, skills clinics, demos, and the AquaPaddle event itself. Whether you're an experienced paddler or just a novice, there’s something for everyone on the water at this great location.

With both indoor and outdoor seating overlooking Queen’s Dock, it’s an ideal place to unwind and watch the action on the water. Run in partnership with a local charity, Fika also supports young people by providing training and employment opportunities. It's a welcoming space for paddlers and visitors alike.

The Liverpool Watersports Centre is well-equipped with practical facilities to support all visitors. Separate male and female changing rooms include lockers, hot showers, and toilets—ideal for freshening up after time on the water. The centre also provides accessible features such as ramp access, a wheelchair-accessible toilet, and the inclusive Wheelyboat experience.
